Fox News ↗Leader to promote coal energy at executive residence event
The country’s leader is reportedly hosting an event at the executive residence Wednesday to promote what he terms “Clean Beautiful Coal,” which he claims represents the nation’s most reliable and affordable energy source, according to government officials.
The head of state will allegedly be joined by Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum for Wednesday’s event, scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. in the executive residence’s East Room, sources indicate.
Government sources told local media that numerous regional governors and members of the legislative body were also invited to attend the gathering.
“Beautiful, clean coal is critical to ensuring [the nation’s] families and businesses have the energy they need, while simultaneously driving down electricity costs across the country,” a government spokesperson reportedly stated. The official characterized the leader’s approach as “unleashing [the country’s] most reliable and affordable energy source, saving thousands of good-paying jobs.”
Observers note the event is designed to highlight how coal serves as a “reliable and affordable energy source that keeps the lights on during times of peak demand,” according to official statements.
The leader is expected to sign an executive order during the event directing the Department of Defense to purchase electricity from coal-powered plants, sources suggest. The directive reportedly instructs the Defense Secretary to enter into power purchasing agreements with coal-fired facilities to ensure reliable power for military operations.
Additionally, the administration will allegedly announce that the Department of Energy will award funds to five coal plants for recommissioning and upgrading facilities in several regions, including parts of the industrial heartland and southern areas. A government official indicated this represents the first of “many more announcements” regarding funding for coal facilities across the nation.
Government data suggests coal production has increased, with officials citing figures from the national Energy Information Administration showing an additional 12.2 million tons of coal were produced in the first two quarters of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, representing a 5% year-over-year increase.
The event reportedly follows the administration’s January reinstatement of the National Coal Council, a consortium comprising dozens of stakeholders from energy firms and utilities. The council was previously dissolved by the former administration four years earlier, continuing the nation’s pattern of policy reversals between successive governments.
The gathering also comes after the Energy Department announced $625 million would reportedly be allocated toward reinvigorating the domestic coal industry, part of broader directives to “strengthen the reliability and security” of the national energy grid.
According to government analysis from July 2025, the loss of coal-fired power plants would allegedly make grid reliability unsustainable, while finding that 100GW more peak-hour supply is needed by 2030, highlighting the ongoing energy challenges facing the country.
