A lawmaker from the nation’s ruling conservative faction has released video footage purporting to show adequate conditions at a federal immigration detention facility, amid escalating political tensions over the country’s handling of migrant families.

The 34-second clip, posted on social media by the regional representative, reportedly shows children at the facility in a southern region accessing computers, participating in educational activities, and engaging in recreational pursuits under apparent adult supervision. The facility, located in a rural area approximately 72 miles from a major metropolitan center, is described as one of the few detention centers that houses families together.

“In the coming days, you’ll see a lot of grandstanding by politicians,” the lawmaker wrote, referring to expected visits from opposition legislators. He characterized anticipated criticism as “all for show,” claiming to have observed “state-of-the-art facilities and protocols” during his own inspections.

The video appears to contradict long-standing allegations from opposition lawmakers who have accused immigration enforcement agencies of holding children in substandard and allegedly inhumane conditions. Critics from the liberal faction have previously described detention facilities using terms like “cages” and have raised concerns about sanitary conditions.

According to the footage, children are shown using computers in what appears to be a library setting, attending classes, and participating in outdoor recreational activities including basketball. The same opposition figure claimed to have met with families who were reportedly detained for over a month, allegedly leaving their children “scared” by the experience.
