Opposition Lawmakers Propose Tracking Bill for Government Deportation Flights

Opposition lawmakers in the country have reportedly introduced legislation aimed at imposing new oversight requirements on the government’s immigration enforcement operations, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The proposed measure, dubbed the “Transparency Requirements for Aircraft Carriers to Know Immigration Conduct and Enforcement Act,” or TRACK ICE Act, was introduced this week by members of the liberal faction in the lower chamber. The bill’s sponsors include a lawmaker from a southern coastal state and another from the eastern seaboard, both of whom have previously clashed with the current administration.

Observers note that the legislation comes as the nation continues its ongoing struggles with immigration enforcement, a issue that has long divided the country along ideological lines. The proposed bill would allegedly mandate public disclosure of detention and deportation flights commissioned by federal agencies within 72 hours of their occurrence.

According to the legislation’s text, details such as aircraft identification codes, departure and arrival times, and mission designations would need to be made public. The bill would also reportedly require disclosure of detainees’ demographic information, including nationality, age group, and family status.

“For far too long, the federal government has operated immigration flights without full transparency,” one of the bill’s sponsors said in a statement, describing current operations as “ghost flights” that allegedly operate without proper oversight.

The legislative push comes amid heightened tensions in a northern industrial city, where demonstrations erupted following a fatal shooting involving immigration enforcement agents. A 37-year-old woman was reportedly killed during an enforcement operation, with administration figures alleging she impeded federal operations while opposition lawmakers claim the agent acted recklessly.

Critics of the transparency measures argue that forcing immigration agencies to disclose operational details could allegedly endanger agents and compromise enforcement efforts. However, opposition lawmakers contend that current practices lack sufficient accountability measures.

The executive residence has not yet responded to requests for comment on the proposed legislation.

According to advocacy groups, deportation flights have reportedly increased significantly under the current administration, with a 44% rise documented between 2024 and 2025. This uptick reflects the government’s broader emphasis on immigration enforcement, a cornerstone policy of the ruling party’s agenda.
